Gunn, Beza Win 2009 Tournament

June 1, 2009 — A small but enthusiastic group of twenty UP alumni and their friends participated in the chapter’s annual golf tournament held yesterday Sunday May 31 at the 6,381 yard long Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek. At the end of the day, tournament co-chair Romi Beza and his golf buddy Tim Gunn emerged as low net and low gross champions. Winners were determined by using a blind Callaway scoring system.

The golfers teed-off to an 11AM shotgun start amid glorious summer conditions. The participants enjoyed a box lunch prepared by the organizers midway through their round to tide them over until the sumptuous awards dinner that followed at the nearby Buttercup Grill & Bar Restaurant. Tournament organizers led by tournament co-chair Daisy Rodriguez and chapter co-founder Edna Victorino along with a few more alumni and friends who could not join the tournament — notably Vangie and Primo Quesada — enjoyed the awards dinner ceremony that immediately followed the 4+ hour golf round. To the pleasant surprise of the alumni, tournament winner Romi Beza and runner-up Jess Zulueta both donated back their modest prize money to the chapter to add to its ongoing UP Professorial Chair endowment fundraising.

Congratulations to one and all for participating in another successful fundraiser!
